Rachel Lewis Has ‘Much More Control’ Over Her Podcast Than Vanderpump Rules: ‘I Have a Voice’ (Exclusive)

Rachel Leviss has command.

When PEOPLE met up with the 29-year-old Vanderpump Rules alum on Monday during the 2024 iHeartRadio Musical Awards in the Dolby Theatre, located in Los Angeles, she talked about what makes being an actor on a reality program different from having her own podcast.

On the red carpet, Rachel Goes Rogue’s host said to PEOPLE, “Oh, I’m given considerably more influence when it’s my own podcast.”

“Having my own podcast allows me to talk freely because I know what I’m going to say won’t be edited to seem a specific way. When you’re on an ordinary TV television program, you’re simply enjoying your ordinary life and you never know what they’re going to air or how they’re going make you to make you look a certain way.

In January, her podcast made its iHeartRadio premiere.

A press announcement announcing the performance in November 2023 stated that Rachel had emerged resilient and devoted to personal growth after maneuvering during a turbulent year of intensive public scrutiny.

When it became public last year that Leviss had an affair with Tom Sandoval, her co-star on Vanderpump Rules, for several months, the news grabbed attention.

The 40-year-old and Leviss’ friend and costar, 38-year-old Ariana Madix, had been dating for nine years at the time.

During her iHeartRadio Music Awards speech, Leviss told PEOPLE that her podcast “is concerning my psychological journey.”

The focus, according to her explanation, is on “what I’ve gained though the time I had taken yourself in an addiction treatment center, and what I’ve done though this toxic journey of being of the reality TV show.”

Leviss described a therapy session she attended in one of her most recent podcast episodes.

She mentioned the behavioral health capacity she stayed in after receiving backlash for covertly that date her friend’s boyfriend. “I wasn’t capable of genuinely commence releasing what he performed and the way he infringed a personal boundary until that I had the individually trauma therapy meeting in The Meadows,” she said.

Leviss had before discussed how Sandoval had reportedly taped her during a private FaceTime session without her permission and gone against her wishes.

During the episode, Leviss said, “It take me some time to comprehend Tom filming me without me knowing,” and she also mentioned how “chaotic” the scenario was.

At the time, PEOPLE contacted Sandoval’s representative for comment, but they received no response.

Speaking to PEOPLE on the red carpet on Monday, Leviss discussed the benefits she thinks her podcast would provide for its audience.

“Just a series of talks about mental health, with the addition of specialists who are knowledgeable about those particular subjects and friends—people I might speak to about experiences that are similar to mine. It’s a happy place,” she remarked.
