On the seventh day of her mother Carrie Fisher’s passing, Billie Lourd is honoring her.

The 60-year-old Star Wars actress passed away on December 27, 2016. Lourd, 31, honored Fisher on Instagram on Wednesday by posting a throwback photo and discussing how her grieving process has evolved over time.

My mother passed away seven years ago, but who’s counting? Me, I suppose? She wrote, “Every anniversary brings a new iteration of my grief.” There are some that make me feel angry, some that make me cry nonstop, some that leave me feeling detached and empty, some that make me feel terrible for having no feelings at all, and some that make me want each one of those things simultaneously.

“This year,” Lourd went on, “I woke up feeling appreciative, griefull, regardless of what you will. I’ve never felt more appreciative of life than I do now, thanks to grief. It lets me soak out each fleeting second of joy as if this were my last.

Lourd married Austen Rydell in March 2022, and the two had a son named Kingston, who is three years old, and a daughter named Jackson Joanne, who is one year old.

The Saturday Night Horror Story actress captioned her photo, “Today, while my daughter took a nap in my arms, my eyes flooded over with tears of joy.” I smiled at myself, which made me cry even more.

She went on, “I felt my mommy’s presence like the summertime heat of the sun on the surface of my skin.” A type of love that makes you smile, involuntarily close your eyes, and inhale slowly through your nose.

Lourd also talked about how she shares their late grandmother with her children.

She wrote, “I miss her every day, but it’s also true—she is beside me every day, adding even more joy to my joyful moments.” She lives among the stars, as I tell my children, and she truly brightens my life. I want to convey my love to everyone who is grieving. And hope that, in the midst of all the emotions that loss invariably accompanies, everyone can experience a tiny twinkle of pain.

Earlier this year, on May 4, also known as Star Wars Day, Lourd received her Hollywood Walk of Fame medal that Fisher had been awarded posthumously.

At that moment, she exclaimed, “Mama, you’ve made it.” Since my mother passed away over six and a half years ago, I have developed a strong affection for Leia and the whole Star Wars saga. I purchase every item of Leia merchandise that catches my attention.

On April 1, Lourd shared an Instagram picture on the late actress’s birthday in remembrance of her grandmother Deborah Reynolds, who passed away at the age of 84 on December 28, 2016, one day after Fisher.

On May 4, 2023, Billie Lourd attends the ceremony where Carrie Fisher receives a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as a posthumous award.

Lourd mentioned in her previous Instagram homage to Fisher from last December that her mother was never able to meet the rest of her family.

Lourd wrote, “My mom isn’t here for either of them, and she’s not here to witness any enchantment.

The most difficult times can occasionally also be the most magical. That is the nature of grief. My mother isn’t here, which is unfortunate. I can only give my kids a slightly tighter hug and hold on to the magic a bit longer. Tell them a tale involving her. Tell them about her favorite things. Express to them your deep love for them in her absence.
