In the latest Dune sequel, Anya Taylor-Joy has a vision; her unexpected persona may hold significant weight in further entries.

In Dune Inc.: Part Two, the 27-year-old actress appears briefly on screen, but her presence is felt throughout the whole movie. On February 15, after Taylor-Joy graced down the red carpet at the international premiere in London, her role in the movie was made public.

Now that I’ve watched it, this is most likely among the greatest films I’ve ever seen. Sincerely, Denis has excelled; it’s amazing, she remarked on the event’s broadcast. This fulfills a dream. The books are amazing, but it doesn’t get any better than this—both with Denis and the actors.

Taylor-Joy appears in a vision after Timothée Chalamet’s character Paul Atreides witnesses the heritage of his families blood after swigging some Water of Life, also known as liquid taken from a young sandworm, for a rite.

She is the adult incarnation of his sister Alias, who is still unborn in this movie but converses with their expectant mother, Jessica, the Lady (Rebecca Ferguson), in the womb. Oscar Isaac’s Duke Leto Atreides, who perished in the 2021 film Dune, is also her father.

In a little flashback that occurs halfway through the movie, Taylor-Joy’s character Alia is seen strolling over a sandy desert before declaring her love for her brother while he carries out a prophecy.

Taylor-Joy’s casting was kept a secret for a long time, but filmmaker Dennis Villeneuve, whose has adapted the movie from writer Frank Herbert’s 1960s novels, explained why to The Hollywood Reporter.

I wanted to test how long we were able to maintain a secret because I believe that Hollywood happens to be the gossipiest place on the planet. We succeeded. We traveled to Africa to film with Anya in extreme secrecy; it was a unique unit. I thought it was a great idea to reveal something to the audience right at the very end. I wanted to save it as a gift for the fans.

In the book sequence, Alia is endowed with exceptional powers even before she is born. Lady Jessica, Alia’s mother, carried out the dangerous rite of swallowing the Fountain of Life while she was pregnant, and Alia inherited the consequences as well.

The six Dune books that Herbert authored are Chapterhouse: Dune, God Monarch of Dune, a Children of Dune, Dune, and Dune Messiah.

Esquire notes that in the books, the character is referred to as “Saint Alia of the Knife” and it is she who murders Baron Harkonnen. Rather, Paul is the one who stabs Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgård) to death in the Dune: Part Two film.

In David Lynch’s Dune movie from 1984, who portrayed Alia? It was Alicia Witt at a young age, who recently reflected on her feature debut.

It’s unbelievable that this December will mark 40 years since its release! When David Lynch cast me in 1983, I was seven years old. I became eight right before I left Mexico City after three months. an encounter that altered my existence in every manner possible, the 48-year-old actress stated on Instagram.

There’s not much longer to wait for fans hoping to witness additional Taylor-Joy and desert scenes: she plays the lead in Furiosa: A Return to the Mad Max Saga, which opens in theaters on May 24.

Now showing in theaters is Dune: Part Two.
